The expansion tank is a key component in the system, mainly used to accommodate the expansion of the system water due to temperature changes (such as thermal expansion and contraction). It can not only reduce the water pressure fluctuation caused by the expansion of water, improve the safety and reliability of the system operation, but also replenish water when the system needs, and play a role in constant pressure.
In HVAC systems, when hot water heats up, the volume of water in the system increases. If there is no expansion tank to accommodate this part of the expansion, the water pressure in the system will increase, affecting the normal operation of the system. The expansion tank keeps the system pressure stable by absorbing this excess water. When the system leaks or cools down for some reason, the water level in the expansion tank will drop, and it can supplement the required amount of water for the system.
In the automobile cooling system, the working principle of the expansion tank is similar. When the engine is running, the coolant will generate steam after absorbing heat in the circulation system. This steam is collected in the expansion tank, and as the steam increases, the pressure in the tank rises. When the pressure reaches a certain level, the expansion tank will release part of the steam into the atmosphere through a valve to reduce the pressure and maintain the normal operation of the cooling system.
